What Should I Write in My LinkedIn ‘About’ Section?

This is yet another favorite question we always get asked.
If you are staring at your LinkedIn profile wondering what to write in that “About” section, you are not alone. I get this question all the time, and honestly, it is one of the most common places people get stuck.

Some people leave it blank. Others copy and paste a resume summary. But here is the thing — your About section is not just filler. It is one of the first things someone reads when they visit your profile. So let us make it count.

Here is the structure I recommend to all my clients:

✅ Who you are
✅ What you do best
✅ Who you help
✅ What makes your approach or results unique

Think of it as your personal pitch. It does not need to be formal or lengthy. It does not need to include every job you have ever had. What matters is that it sounds like you — clear, confident, and focused on your value.

Let us look at a quick Before and After

Before:

“Experienced customer success professional with a demonstrated history of working in the software industry. Skilled in onboarding, account management, and team collaboration.”

This is generic and forgettable. It could apply to anyone.

After:

“I’m a customer success manager helping SaaS startups turn users into advocates. I specialize in onboarding, retention, and post-sale activation. My track record includes a 92 percent CSAT score over the past three years.”

Now that tells me exactly who you are, what you are great at, and the kind of results you deliver. Much stronger.

Coach’s Tip:

Be specific. When possible, include real examples or numbers. These help you stand out and show credibility. Even one line with a measurable outcome can make a big difference.
